An invitation with a time and place

Back to exercises

Step 1 of 3

Read it slowly

Say the whole passage at a pace that lets you hear every word. Notice one part to repeat.

We are meeting at the library entrance on Thursday at half past six. The walk takes about forty minutes and finishes at the same entrance. Bring a light jacket if you think you will need one. If you arrive a little late, wait by the front steps; we will check there before leaving. You can join even if you have never walked with the group before. Come over, tell us your name and we will introduce you to someone who knows the route.

Check whether a listener can catch the time and meeting point.

How to practise

Check your next reading

Read the passage again. Was the detail in the focus note easier to catch? Keep or revise your change.

How to rehearse this passage

  1. Read it slowly

Say the whole passage at a pace that lets you hear every word. Notice one part to repeat.

  2. Read it at your speaking pace

Repeat the difficult part, then read the complete passage at a comfortable pace. Choose clarity before speed.

  3. Listen for the detail you chose

Read the passage again. Was the detail in the focus note easier to catch? Keep or revise your change.

Read aloud or use a recorder you already know. The timer guides your practice; it does not assess your voice. Completion lasts while this page stays open.
