Change a video background in Teleprompter Automatic

Use this guide when a recorded clip needs a cleaner background before export. Teleprompter Automatic supports background workflows in mobile video editing, including blur and background replacement where available. Web recording and export workflows may offer blur or fill options instead of full replacement.

Quick answer

  1. Keep the original recording until the edited export is verified.
  2. Open Videos or Recordings and choose the take you want to edit.
  3. Open the editing tools and choose Change background or Blur background when the option is available.
  4. For replacement, choose a background image or prepared visual that matches the video format.
  5. Preview the result, especially around hair, hands, microphones, glasses, and moving objects.
  6. Export a short sample first, then export the full video when the sample looks clean.

Choose blur or replacement

Blur is the safer choice when the room is distracting but the original shot is usable. Replacement is better when you need a specific branded or neutral background, but it depends more on lighting, subject separation, and the source video. A busy room, motion blur, low light, or a background color close to your clothing can make the edge less stable.

Change the background on mobile

On supported mobile workflows, open the saved video, choose the background edit, select the new background or blur strength, and preview before export. Work with one effect at a time. If the clip also needs subtitles, logo, trimming, or resizing, finish the background first, verify it, then continue with the next edit.

Use web background options carefully

In the web recorder/export workflow, background controls are more limited and are mainly useful for fill or blur-style output. If you need full background replacement, use a supported mobile workflow for that edit. For exact recording setup, start with camera and recording settings.

Avoid edge and export problems

  • Record with even light on your face and some distance from the wall.
  • Avoid backgrounds and clothing that are nearly the same color.
  • Keep fast hand movements, loose hair, and reflective objects away from the edge when possible.
  • Use a simple background image; very detailed images can distract from the script.
  • If export fails, try a shorter trim, lower resolution, or only one effect at a time.

Expected result

You should have an edited video that keeps the original audio, uses the intended background effect, and plays from start to finish after export. Continue with edit videos for other editing tools or record and export videos for basic saving and sharing.
